Pastor and Politician -Essays on the legacy of JL Dube, the first President of the African National Congress
R. Simangaliso Kumalo
This book aims to revive the legacy of John Langalibalele Dube who made a tremendous contribution to the liberation of the African people in South Africa. Dube was a pastor, first President of the African National Congress, a Pan-Africanist, founder of Ohlange Institution, and a counselor to Zulu kings. In the 21st Century, as Africa seeks to determine its own future, Dube’s legacy offers valuable insights. The book examines issues of self-reliance, good governance, and African identity and – most relevant to leaders in post-apartheid South Africa – reminds us that religion is political and politics can be religious, as revealed by the life of Dube who held the two in a creative tension.

A journey towards healing - stories of people with multiple woundedness in kwazulu-natal
edited by philippe denis, scott houser and radikobo ntsimane

journey_towards_healing

The twenty-six stories collected in this book were told by survivors of violence, oppression and abuse who took part in ‘Healing of Memories’ workshops run by various Christian organisations under the coordination of the KwaZulu-Natal Christian Council. Telling a painful story in a safe and loving environment and with the support of people sharing similar experiences is a first step, small but important, on a journey towards healing and reconciliation. By agreeing to have their stories recorded and published, the participants show that, in spite of all obstacles, group processes like those in which they took part or any other form of community support can help wounded people to move on.

The Signs of the Times series

the_church_and_mission_small

Signs of the Times: Doing theology in the 21st century demands attention to the most important events, people, and themes of contemporary society. This is the focus of the “Signs of the Times” series. Each title, “The Church and ….”, engages in theological reflection and analysis of a significant “sign of the times”. Written in a non-academic style, the books present clear interpretations of the response of Christian faith to the world today.
